Solved! wiTECH 2.0 cannot Communicate with Any Module (All Modules are Red)

$

0

Here are some solutions of Micropod wiTECH 2.0 communication failure with all modules.

Theory of operation:

Below are few different ways communication on a vehicle takes place:

  • Scan tool to the Central Gateway Module (Ex: SGW, TIPM, BCM, etc.)
  •     Module to Module
  •     Module to Device
  •     Device to Module

Communication to the vehicle is established with a wiTech Micropod 2 scan tool, through the Data Link Connector (DLC) to the Central GateWay Module (CGW) over the Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus.

On this vehicle the Body Control Module (BCM) is the CGW between the high and low speed CAN Bus networks (CAN-C and CAN-IHS); and communicates with the scan tool through CAN C.

witech-not-communicate-1

The CAN Bus architecture of this vehicle operates in a “hub” or “star” style, meaning all of the modules are connected at a central point in the Star Connectors. The terminating resistors for CAN Bus are located in the Star Connectors that are part of the body and instrument panel wiring harnesses. In other CAN Bus architectures a vehicle may operate in a “stub” or “backbone” style, meaning there is a single, main line that connects all modules. The terminating resistors for CAN Bus in the “stub” or “backbone” style are located in 2 separate dominant modules that are placed as far apart as is physically possible. The scan tool becomes another module on the vehicle’s networks by acting as the Master Module of all Bus networks while connected to the DLC  and contributes voltage to the operation of the CAN Bus.

The following vehicle interactions listed below will aid in predetermining the type of vehicle communication that is/isn’t available:

NOTE: If the Hazard Lamps and Headlamps are active, this indicates the BCM is functioning and is most likely not the cause of the CAN Bus fault.

  •     Operating the Lock/Unlock button of the FOB with Integrated Key (FOBIK)

When any one of the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter buttons of the FOBIK are depressed, the onboard transmitter generates a high frequency RF request signal that is received and validated by the Radio Frequency Hub Module (RF Hub). If the RF Hub determines the RKE transmitter RF request signal was generated by a FOBIK that is valid for the vehicle, the RF Hub relays electronic request messages to the BCM over the CAN BUS to invoke the functions or features associated with the request.

  •     Opening a Door

The Door Latches contain Ajar Switches that are hardwired to the BCM. The status of the Door Ajar Switch Sense circuit input is monitored by the BCM, which then sends the proper electronic message to other modules in the vehicle over the CAN Bus.

  •     Turning the Headlights on

The Headlamp switch uses a single resistor multiplexed output to control the many functions and features it provides. The switch receives a clean ground from the BCM on a Headlamp Switch Multiplex (MUX) Return circuit. The BCM then reads the switch outputs using an internal pull up on the Headlamp/Fog Lamp Switch Signal circuit to control the exterior lighting functions

  •     Turning the Hazard Lamps on

The status of the Hazard Switch is continually monitored by the circuitry within the Instrument Panel Switch Bank in the Integrated Center Stack (ICS). The switch receives battery voltage at all times through a Fused Battery Feed circuit, and a path to ground at all times through the Instrument Panel wire harness. Whenever the Hazard Switch is in its latched and lowered position, the hazard warning system is selected and the switch bank circuitry provides a hardwired output to the BCM. When the BCM receives a Hazard Switch input, it then controls hazard warning system operation and flash rate by controlling battery voltage outputs through high side drivers on the Right and Left / Front and Rear Turn Signal Feed circuits.

  •     Honking the Horn

Each Horn has a path to ground at all times through its wire harness connection to an eyelet terminal secured to the body sheet metal. The Horns are controlled by a Fused B(+) output received through a relay within the front Power Distribution Center (PDC) Assembly and controlled by the BCM.

During an ignition cycle, the CAN C Bus network may go into default mode when communication has been hindered with the BCM. In some situations, when this happens the wipers automatically operate in a delay mode and the Headlamps are activated by the BCM. When the ignition is turned off, the vehicle will exit the default mode and operation of the Wipers and Headlamps will stop. When turning the ignition on again, if the CAN C Bus fault is still present, the vehicle will exhibit a no crank, no start condition; and no scan tool communication response to the vehicle.

Possible reasons:

INOPERATIVE SCAN TOOL

MANUALLY SELECTING THE INCORRECT YEAR AND/OR MODEL WITH WITECH 2.0

DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC)

DATA LINK CONNECTOR FUSED B (+) CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE

DATA LINK CONNECTOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE

CAN C (+) BUS CIRCUIT OPEN, SHORTED OR HIGH RESISTANCE

CAN C (-) BUS CIRCUIT OPEN, SHORTED OR HIGH RESISTANCE

POOR TERMINAL CONTACT OR CONNECTOR CONNECTION(S)

STAR CONNECTOR

ANY MODULE ON THE CAN C BUS

NORMAL CAN C BUS CIRCUIT VOLTAGE TABLE

  •     CAN C BUS LOW (-) : 1.5 – 2.5 volts
  •     CAN C BUS HIGH (+) : 2.5 – 3.5 volts
  •     Difference Between CAN C BUS (+) and CAN C BUS (-) : 0.5 volt

  •     CAN B or IHS BUS LOW (-) : 1.5 – 2.5 volts
  •     CAN B or IHS BUS HIGH (+) : 2.5 – 3.5 volts
  •     Difference Between CAN B or IHS BUS (+) and CAN B or IHS BUS (-) : 0.5 volt

  •     CAN C1 or C2 BUS LOW (-) : 1.5 – 2.5 volts
  •     CAN C1 or C2 BUS HIGH (+) : 2.5 – 3.5 volts
  •     Difference Between CAN C1 or C2 BUS (+) and CAN C1 or C2 BUS (-) : 0.5 volt

That is,

the “vi_device_name” is not correct, I was have the same problem with vas5054 and actia xs as passthru.

You need check your correct device name, It’s very important because consult need’s “call” your device driver.

Try on device properties to search the device name.

GDS VCI for KIA & HYUNDAI “unit is limited because no update” Error Solution

Problem:

I have it installed Hyundai GDS VCI V19 software on a laptop with Windows XP. It installed and worked without any problems the first 3 times I used it. Although now I get a screen when starting up the program (see attached screenshot) that will not let the program open. It says “The usage of this GDS unit is limited because it has not been updated in 4 weeks. Perform the update after the internet is connected. Pop-up will disappear.” The message has two buttons “OK” (Which does nothing) and “GDS Exit” (which closes the program entirely).

I have NOT updated the program, I have even set the computer up so that it has NO access to the internet whatsoever. I did this because of the clear warning on both your website and directions that came with the GDS system warning of the damage that would cause.

Please let me know what I need to do to get the program working again.

OBD2TOOL.COM solution:

Change the computer date/time to 01-01-2016. It will work again. Reported: Changing the date did work, thank you very much!

Note:

1. GDS VCI comes with Hyundai software v19 and Kia software V12. Hyundai and Kia GDS software cannot be installed on the same computer. Before you install Kia software, you must install hyundai master DVD, otherwise will fail to install.

2. Never update the GDS software online.

How to Use BMW Rheingold ISTA to Do Programming and Coding

$
0
0

This instruction show you how to use BMW ISTA software to perform programming and coding work.

Preparing vehicle programming and finishing off

The basic requirement for efficient programming is that the vehicle is correctly prepared.

Preparations:

1.Park vehicle on flat and even ground

2.Wherever possible, protect vehicle from direct sunlight

3.Turn off engine

4.Shift manual transmission to Neutral or automatic transmission to Park.

5.Activate electromechanical parking brake or apply parking brake

6.Make sure that the temperature of the transmission fluid is between -40 °C (-40 °F) and 85 °C (185 °F)

7.Switch off all electric loads, lights and turn signal lamps

8.Switch off wiper/washer system. The wipers may be actuated during programming and initialization. Make sure that the wipers can move freely

9.Make a note of all stored radio and TV frequencies as well as the navigation destinations

10.Connect up a BMW ICOM BMW Group-approved battery charger in the engine compartment.

The battery charger connected during programming must be run in “external power supply mode with battery connected”. Please refer to the operating instructions for the battery charger

11.Do not connect or disconnect the battery charger during programming. Low system voltage may cause programming to cancel. Make sure that the vehicle system voltage does not drop below 13.0 volts while programming is in progress

12.Set up connection between workshop network, vehicle interface and vehicle

13.Check cable routing. Cables routed through open windows could be damaged when the windows are started automatically. Do not route cables through open windows

14.Switch on ignition (terminal 15)

− On vehicles with Comfort Access, the identification transmitter must be inserted in the ignition lock. The coding procedure may be terminated if the identification transmitter is not inserted in the ignition lock.

− If the vehicle model does not have an ignition lock, the identification transmitter must be located in the vehicle interior.

− On vehicles with automatic terminal 15 shutdown (as from 03/2007) the signal from the door contact switches off terminal 15 by opening and closing the driver’s door. Terminal 15 is permanently switched on by pressing the START-STOP button. Make sure that the driver’s door contact is not operated during the programming procedure.

15.Perform a vehicle test with the ISTA workshop system to make sure that all installed control modules respond and any fault memory entries are read out

16.Before programming, rectify any faults that may be present and delete any fault codes stored

17.Determine CBS data, note down and end ISTA workshop system

18.Preparations: Remove inserted data media (DVD) and disconnect connected data (iPod®, etc.). Data media in a drive or still connected could cause programming to abort

19.Before starting vehicle programming, make sure the boot lid is closed (to prevent the luggage compartment lighting from overheating).

During programming:

1.Observe and follow requests and instructions in ISTA/P

2.Leave ignition switched on and follow instructions in ISTA/P (e.g. CAS)

3.Do not cut the connection between workshop network, vehicle interface and vehicle

4.Close the boot lid again after any action in the luggage compartment (e.g. loading/removing navigation DVD) to prevent the luggage compartment lighting from overheating

5.During programming, perform no other activities on/in the vehicle than those instructed by ISTA/P.

Finishing off:

How-to-Use-BMW-ISTA-to-Do-Programming-and-Coding-1

1.Execute procedure for finishing off the measures plan and confirm by clicking “OK”

If an BMW ICOM Next is connected to the MOST direct access port, disconnect the MOST direct access port when requested to do so by the ISTA/P system, remove the ICOM from the MOST ring and close the MOST ring with the original flash plug (bridge) in the vehicle. Fault codes may be entered and MOST control modules may be registered incorrectly if the ICOM is not correctly disconnected from the MOST direct access port.

Perform the finishing off procedures such as calibration, initialization, service functions etc. in the vehicle test in the ISTA workshop system as defined in the final report. Confirm the finishing off jobs individually.

Enter the time and date information to ensure correct calculation of the CBS values in the vehicle.

After programming, reinstall all removed or disconnected data media (DVD, iPod®, etc.) and check.

Compare the previously printed or noted CBS data of the control modules and,if necessary, reset and correct as part of the vehicle test in the ISTA workshop system.

Perform vehicle test with the ISTA workshop system and end vehicle test on completion.

Park vehicle for at least 5 minutes (BN2000 and BN2020 vehicles) or 16 minutes (I-bus vehicle) with terminal R OFF so that all control modules can assume sleep mode, i.e. assume the rest state.

Note: control modules that do not assume sleep mode (rest state) can cause closed-circuit current faults!

Make sure that the vehicle is OK.

Check all noted radio and TV frequencies as well as navigation destinations and store manually if necessary.

2019 GM MDI2 shares the same functions and vehicle coverage as GM MDI. GM MDI2 features in a light blue color shell and brand-new shape, GM MDI features in dark blue shell.

2019 GM MDI2 is optional with Wifi version and USB version (means wired network connection is not allowed)

GM MDI is only optional with Wifi version.

Image 1: 2019 GM MDI2 in light blue (WIFI or USB options)

Image 2: GM MDI in dark blue.

2

Similarities:

  1. Both GM MDI2 and MDI are compatible with GDS2 Tech2Win

3

Software version: 2019.3

OS: WIN7 64bit

Computer: the year after 2008, 4GB RAM

Pros: gds2 software needs no activation

The method to use: Insert the HDD with GM MDI gds2 software into your computer; the software can be used directly with the GM MDI scanner.

Tech2win is the program that works just like a Tech II, but the program running on a laptop for the MDI (clone MDI device which the Nano is).

GDS2 is the program for the C7, like the tech II and tech2win with midi is for the C6 instead.

On the VM GDS 2, you don’t need an account with GM to use it, short of needing to do SPS programming, which you will need a TDS SPS subscription instead ($40 for 2 years per car).

So the low down for most laptops,

Wants to be running in win 10 for TDS SPS programming.

Needs to be running a multi-core chip in win 7 or above to run VM player for VM GDS2.

Need to be running in Win 7 native (32 or 64 bit) to run Tech2win (will not work in a VM shell).

  1. Both GM MDI2 and MDI have the same capabilities

SAAB NAO V9.250

Simply pressed OK when Candy detected and all worked.

Tested on SAAB 9-5, 2003, 3.0 TID

2: 2014 model – works

SAAB NAO V9.250 is from 2014. Already tested.

The 2003 year too old – not interesting for me.

3: Saab 9-5, 2003, 3.0 – works

Tested by my own, works with Saab 9-5, 2003, 3.0

Online or offline issues:

1: online – good, offline – bad

GM MDI good, interface works online.

update mdi 100%.

offline too bad for new cars.

2: wifi card compatible

at now, Chinese clone GM MDI with the squ wifi card

3: wifi not working but works well with USB

I bought a cheap one and it only worked with USB. The wired network and wifi did not work. In fact, the card flash socket was missing from the board. Build quality was not to bad. I just use it to flash newer PCM/ecm’s.

GM MDI WIFI version:

https://www.obd2tool.com/goods-2802-Best+quality+For+GM+MDI+Scan+tool+with+Wifi.html

Quoted: a man of his words to trust in:

I would not go by pictures posted on the web as vendors share the same photos but the MDI had a different ethernet connector and missing card flash socket. It was advertised as (without wifi). It does work fine on USB and for flashing PCM/ECM because at 480 Mbit/s it is almost 5 times faster than ethernet.

The MDI clone works fine with tech2win and also TIS2000. Used it for diags and PCM flashing with no problem (through USB port only)

2). GM TECH2 TIS2000 VS VXDIAG Nano VS MDI in the installation

ON the VX nano, sometimes you can get Tech2win to run on win 10 (maybe if you have an AMD chip or not, but have not figured that one out yet), while on my i7 machine, Tech 2 win will not run in win 10 instead.

Tis2000 needs to run in WinXP or built the VM XP shell, so it can be native in XP or in a VM shell so long as you have a multicore processor.

So the way I do it, since Tech2win will not run native on my machine with an I7 process in win 10, I have a dual boot up in win 7 and win 10 both.

Win 10 is used to run pretty much everything I run, short of Tech2 win, which I use the win 7 64 boot up to run it.

So in the Win 7 dual boot up (small 40 gig partition off the drive), have tech2win to use the Nano as a Tech II, plus VM GMSI, and Tis2000 in a VM shell since I may need them as well for the VX nano running as a tech II when running in win 7.

In win 10 boot up,

VM GDS2 V17

TDS using internet explorer native with account

VM Tis2000 built on a full XP OS with account

VM GMSI

If you want to just run a single OS system, instead of a dual boot up machine since you can’t get Tech2 win to run in win10, then you can run pretty much run everything in win 7 (32 or 64 bit), so long as you have a CPU that has multicores. Hence you going to need to run at least VM player for the VM shells, and it takes as a multi-core processor to run VM player (or VM workstation).

Note, I have VM workstation, instead of just VM player, since I build other VM shells to run in windows as well.

So again, it really just depends on your machine, and if you Tech2win will run correctly on it or not.

Hence the problem is when you open Tech2win, you need to get three pop up screens once Tech2win start the program.

The first screen will ask you what country, and you select North America.

7

The second pop up will ask you if the device is an MDI 1 or MDI 2, and you select MDI 1.

8

The third pop up screen will ask you if you want to select the USB device (the nano plugged into a USB port), you select it, then it will take you to the Tech2win start screen.

9

So if you open Tech2win, and you don’t get the three pop up screens but just goes directly to tech2win main start screen below instead, then Tech2win is not going to work on your machines win 10. Hence the problem is a glitch in midi and tech2 win interface to select the nano, to begin with (what the pop-up screens are), and if you can’t select the nano via the pop-up screens, tech2win will not connect to the nano in the first place.

10

Again don’t know if this is an AMD verse Intel CPU problem in win 10, but the only laptops that I have seen run Tech2win in windows 10, just happened to be laptops running an AMD CPU instead. And yes, have tried to skin the cat many way with added drivers and compatibility modes, and it’s driver/code line that Win 10 does not have for the Intel CPU (but seems to to have for the AMD CPU that is a carry over from the win 7 days to make the AMD chip work with win 10 instead).
